BENCHMARK TRANSITIONS POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Housekeeper / Janitor I
POSITION EFFECTIVE DATE: January 1, 2017
DEPARTMENT: Support Services
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly (Non-Exempt)
SALARY RANGE: $22,800 - $33,280, based on hourly equivalency
WORK HOURS: Varies (may also be nights and weekends). 8 hours per day, 5 days per week SUPERVISOR: Facilities Manager via Chief Information Officer

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The primary responsibilities of the Housekeeper/Janitor I position is to provide clean, and sanitary surroundings for the participants, employees and public. This position will This position will be working under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager in the Support Services Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, warehouse and other work areas so that health standards are met.

  • Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.

  • Empty wastebaskets and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas.

  • Sweep, scrub, wax, and/or polish floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbing

    and waxing machines.

  • Dust and polish furniture and equipment. Clean wash basins, mirrors, commodes, tubs,

    and showers daily. Wet mop floors in all residents' rooms and bathrooms daily. Damp

    mop all corridor floors, lobby, dining areas, and others daily.

  • Keep storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.

  • Polish metalwork such as fixtures and fittings.

  • Remove debris from driveways, warehouse areas.

  • Replace light bulbs.

  • Replenish supplies such as drinking glasses, linens, writing supplies, and bathroom items.

  • Sort clothing and other articles, load washing machines, and iron and fold dried items.

  • Sort, count, and mark clean linens, and store them in linen closets.

  • Wash windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork, waxing and polishing as necessary.

  • Assign duties to other staff and give instructions regarding work methods and routines.

  • Report any needed repairs immediately to supervisor (such as leaky faucets or toilets,

    loose tile, broken window. Request repair services and wait for repair workers to arrive.

  • Deliver television sets, ironing boards, furniture, fixtures and other necessary supplies to

    apartments.

  • Disinfect equipment and supplies, using germicides or steam-operated sterilizers. Follow

    instructions on use of germicidal solutions to clean. All procedures for solution use will be

    part of the housekeeper's training.

  • Dust window blinds, light fixtures, window sills Clean all air vents, etc.

  • Move and arrange furniture, and turn mattresses.

  • Observe precautions required to protect property, and report damage, theft, and found

    articles to supervisors.

  • Plan menus, and cook and serve meals and refreshments following employer's

    instructions or own methods when necessary.

  • Prepare rooms for meetings, and arrange decorations, media equipment, and furniture

    for social or business functions.

  • Wash dishes and clean kitchens, cooking utensils, and silverware.

  • Carry linens, towels, toilet items, and cleaning supplies, using wheeled carts.

  • Use safety precautions in all housekeeping services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Good customer services skills including in person, email and phone

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and

    create resolution

  • Proficient ability to work independently as well as in team environment

  • Experience working with program participants, parents and referents

  • Strong oral and written communications skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, ability to quickly learn program related

    software and hardware technology

  • Strong knowledge of general work practices and work ethic

  • Proficient knowledge of substance abuse and mental health program protocols and

    documentation methods

  • Ability to maintain a schedule of events and arrive promptly

  • Flexible individual displaying accuracy and dependability

  • Ability to follow Benchmark Transitions policies and procedures

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information

  • Ability to work in a safe manner

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and organization in a fast paced environment during all situations

  • Ability to consistently maintain mental and emotional stability and express assertive personality when necessary

  • Ability to read and interpret documents at a basic level, such as reports, spreadsheets, and instruction and procedure manuals.

  • Excellent ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Excellent ability to plan and manage time

  • Proficient in crisis intervention and management, knowledge of behavior management

    techniques and verbal de-escalation processes

  • Must be able to interact with participants in a responsible and empathetic manner and

    to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam and health screen

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and be eligible for auto

  • insurance coverage

Preferred qualifications:

  • Relevant work experience

  • Chemical Dependency Certification or Registration (CADC/RADT, etc.)

  • The ability to climb ladders, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull or sit for an extended period of time, up to eitht

    hours or more.

  • The ability to use industrial cleaning equipment including, but not limited to, vacuums

    and carpet cleaners, use office equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator and

    general office equipment.

  • Employee must be able to function in fast-paced work environment.
